A Note from Allison
This June 2021 class is our only class on the schedule for the foreseeable future. As for everyone, 2020 was quite the year in so many ways, and we’ve had to adjust our class offerings as a result. In addition, our greeting card production has increased, and, along with the changes as a result of Covid-19, keeping regularly scheduled in-person monthly classes has been even more challenging.
Since early 2014, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching modern calligraphy to over 700 students, and it’s been an absolute joy to see so many people connect with lettering. The decision to end our regular monthly in-person classes was not made lightly. In a time when we’re surrounded by so many screens, the simple pleasure of putting pen to paper becomes even more significant; however, I also recognize that balancing regular classes with our growing greeting card business has continued to be a challenge. The forced break from Covid-19 made this even more clear to me.
While I know it’s not the same as an in-person class, there are some really great calligraphy and lettering books available (and this is also a great way to support your local bookstore). One of my favorites is Modern Calligraphy by Molly Suber Thorpe. Along with calligraphy basics, this book also includes an assortment of projects for extra inspiration. Need supplies? We carry a small assortment of calligraphy inks and nibs at our Park Circle retail shop (along with the entire INK MEETS PAPER paper goods collection).
I hope you’ll stay connected with INK MEETS PAPER through social media or by signing up for our newsletter where we’ll keep you in the loop of new products, special events at the studio, and other snail mail inspiration. Thanks for your support— it’s truly an honor that you use our cards to spread more handwritten love and cheer to the special people in your life.
